15th June 2023 - Wrapped up Session 1 of the Webinar on NuwardTM small modular reactor (SMR) Technology and French Nuclear Industry, on a high note yesterday.
Last Thursday, the second session of the webinar on the NUWARD Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology and French nuclear industry came to a successful outcome.
The 2 days webinar event, jointly organized by EDF Électricité de France S.A. ( and The eCEOs Sdn. Bhd., gathered more than 100 participants from important key stakeholders interested in exploring nuclear energy, particularly focusing on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. These attendees potentially hold significance for Malaysia if the nation decides to reevaluate its nuclear power initiative. The event also featured experts from French organizations involved in the nuclear sector.
The participants came from the Energy Division, Ministry of Economy, Energy Commission (ST), Department of Atomic Energy , Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., Single Buyer, Malaysia Programme Office for Power Electricity Reform (MyPOWER), Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia SEDA Malaysia, Malakoff Corporation Berhad, PETRONAS , Universiti Tenaga Nasional , Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and National University of Malaysia (UKM), Sievert Technology Sdn Bhd as well as The eCEOs
One of the speakers from EDF, Mr Selaimane Bigdade talked about Economics of Nuclear Power and financing which includes Introduction on Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE), Nuclear Cost Fundamentals and Economic Models Options. Furthermore, Mr Laurent-Olivier COUDEYRE spoke about Localization with some of the takeaways are EDF as the ideal long-term partner for a nuclear project and will provide many opportunities for local companies while anticipation is key to prepare for a nuclear project and to mitigate risks.
The topic on Role of The French Technical Support Organization (TSO) by Institute For Radiological Protection And Nuclear Safety (IRSN) by Mr Jean-René Jourdain, PharmD PhD was also discussed. He mentioned about the overview of the main stakeholders and the 3 areas of expertise (Health And The Environment, Nuclear Safety and Security) of IRSN. Mr Laurent Fabre also spoke about economic & social benefits of a new nuclear power programme and why we need to develop a nuclear power programme.
On the closing remarks, The Principal advisor of The eCEOs, YM Dato’ Raja Abdul Aziz Raja Adnan conveyed appreciation to the French experts for sharing their inputs with Malaysian experts through the webinar and lastly, Mr Antoine GUELFI, shared about active participation from Malaysia and look forward to the next steps of our future collaboration in Nuclear industry.

13th June 2023 - Wrapped up Session 1 of the Webinar on NuwardTM small modular reactor (SMR) Technology and French Nuclear Industry, on a high note yesterday.
The webinar, which was co-hosted by Électricité de France S.A. and The eCEOs Sdn. Bhd. brought together 86 attendees from key stakeholders, who were curious in finding out about nuclear power, especially on small modular reactor (SMR), and who may possibly be crucial to Malaysia if the country decides to revisit its nuclear power program, along with the experts from the French nuclear-related organisations.
The participants came from the Energy Division, Ministry of Economy, Energy Commission (ST), Department of Atomic Energy (Atom Malaysia), Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., Single Buyer, Malaysia Programme Office for Power Electricity Reform (MyPOWER), Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia), Malakoff Corporation Berhad, PETRONAS, UNITEN, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), as well as The eCEOs.
The CEO of The eCEOs, Mr. Jailani Mustafa spoke about the nuclear power advocacy efforts by The eCEOs during his introductory remarks, highlighting nuclear power’s role in meeting Malaysia’s net zero target by 2050.
In the same spirit, Mr. Laurent Fabre emphasised in his opening remarks the capabilities and strengths of France’s nuclear industry, as well as how they can support countries like Malaysia should Malaysia decide to reconsider its nuclear power program.
A speaker from EDF presented updates on the NuwardTM technology, where the participants were learned that the French NuwardTM SMR design will be ready for deployment abroad after 2030. This design is currently undergoing an early joint European regulatory review led by the French nuclear safety regulator with participation from the Czech and Finnish nuclear regulators.
Subsequently, a speaker from the International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN) spoke on human capital building and public acceptance, while the National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (ANDRA) shared their experience in the management of radioactive waste.
On June 15, during Session 2, speakers from EDF will speak about the financial aspects of nuclear power, localization, and the social and economic benefits of a nuclear power programme, whilst an expert from the Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety Institute (IRSN) will touch on the development of the regulatory framework and support for technical support organisations (TSO).
